The magazine aims to appeal to intelligent and informed Russian speaker?s world-wide.Kolokol is the reincarnation of the well-known 19th Century Russian émigré journal of the same name, first published in London in1857, which was a source of some of the most innovative and progressive thoughts and ideas of its time. Today?s Kolokol, whilst distributed to a vastly wider 21st Century audience, retains the same tradition of providing erudite and thought provoking comment on issues of the day. There are 6 issues a year, at a price of £3.50 per issue. Kolokol, launched in January 2002, is the company?s first product, created and edited by scriptwriter and art historian Alexander Shlepyanov and designed by book designer Michael Anikst. Kolokol is a work of international co-operation many leading representatives of Russian culture currently living and working in London, Paris, Prague, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Jerusalem, New York and other parts of the world. Each issue contains short stories by renowned and talented young Russian writers; previously unrevealed historical facts; opinions and discussions on all vital aspects of life; and introduction of new gifted artists in the fields of fine arts, design, music, fashion, etc. The principal mission of the magazine is to offer the best of Russian culture in a very special, high-quality format to its immense audience. Russia?s unique culture is the creation of the many nations who, over centuries, have lived on its territory. This process, if anything, was intensified during the seventy-five years of the Soviet regime. Even after the break-up of the Soviet Union, when some of the former republics received full independence and massive numbers of their populace spread all over the world (140 million in Russia and 40 million in the rest of the world) -- all these peoples retained something in common: Russian culture, language, history, mentality, sense of humour and other social aspects. This situation has even produced a new term, Russian-speaking, used to describe any person of whatever nation for whom the Russian culture is his own. The Russian Diaspora extends far and wide. There are large Russian communities (some of several millions) in the UK, Germany, Israel, Australia, USA and Canada, as well as smaller enclaves almost all over the globe. There is a massive network uniting all these people, both in business and private matters, and of course culturally. There are innumerable web sites devoted to Russian affairs, both for international and local purposes. The Russian speakers? thirst for the printed word is evidenced by the many Russian publications available for purchase world-wide, as well as by the newspapers and magazines, which are published locally throughout the world. Russian TV programmes are transmitted for screening in many other countries, and the first international Russian TV channel to be beamed all over the world will soon commence transmitting from New York. Kolokol in the same way is the first world-wide Russian magazine. Even though only a few issues have been published so far, its popularity and circulation have grown exponentially issue by issue, due to the high degree of interest, which it consistently generates amongst an audience eager for a publication of this kind.
